A sleek-lined ship of black-stained wood, the ''Excoriator'' is a pirate sky frigate, captained by the Elvaan woman [[Nakamora Noriko]]. As airships go, it is a decently-sized, but still swift, vessel, measuring approximately 125 feet in length with a 31 foot beam. Its main propulsion is an array of propellors and gyros driven by magicate engines, but the ''Excoriator'' has supplemental propulsion in the form of fully-rigged sail in the nature of traditional sailing ships, which help reduce the ship's reliance on fuel and can provide a small boost of speed or a stitch of maneuverability at need. Courtesy of the ship's mage, a Rozarrian human who goes only by the name of Mendoza, the ''Excoriator'''s sails are more aggressively employed, driven by arcane winds which can, at least in short bursts, allow the sky frigate to reach impressive speeds.

Mendoza can supply fire support as well, although his skill with more aggressive magic is rudimentary at best; the primary armament of the ship comes in the form of twenty-four heavy, thirty-two pound carronades, twelve on each broadside, as well as an additional pair of eighteen pound bow-mounted carronades. While the guns are short--the broadsides have an effective range of no more than a hundred twenty feet, while the chasers can only achieve about sixty feet--they are quite devastating for their size, splintering hulls with explosive ease.

The ''Excoriator'' carries a total crew of anywhere between 130 and 160, depending on current recruiting.
