Anima is a construct, built by Ultima in secret during the opening stages of her War on Heaven. A creation of destruction whose soul purpose is to destroy, consume and lay waste to those who oppose it. Unbound it is said Anima could rival the power of Atomos, Ultima realised this fact shortly after bringing Anima into being, their first attack devastated the base where they had been secretly constructed. It was this explosion that alerted Bahamut that Ultima was planning something and many a scholar has claimed it was this warning that permitted the Greater Spirits to weather the first assault of Ultima's war.
Ultima was no slouch however, realising the destructive potential of Anima had to be restrained they acted, a raid upon the forges of the Great Keep procured for them a length of chain, the same chain used to bind Atomos. With this they where able to bind Anima, sealing them up within the cocoon of their wings, imobile with just their eyes showing. Bound as such Ultima was able to direct Anima's destructive force as they wished, a terrible weapon that hung over the heads of the other spirits. In the end however the power of Anima was never to be unleashed upon the battle field. Bahamut himself, seeing the danger of Anima and the potential risk involved if they where ever used struck the camp where it was being kept personally. With unwavering surety of power and wisdom Bahamut used the chains which bound Anima to bind it further, sealing it within the Emerald Nethicite, a stone which he gave into the keeping of the Crusaders. It is said to be sealed within their vast and mighty keep somewhere in the outer reaches of the Valhala where they can watch and wait undisturbed until they are called upon.
