"Passions fill the hearts of nearly all races of Ivalice, but in none were those passions as concentrated and wild as these. They seem at once poets and madmen... ruled moment to moment as no others are." -- An excerpt from Libri of Ivalice Natio Nationis written and compiled by Seth Tolsky.
Lucavian is the term which has been generally accepted when connected to children of the Lucavi and mortals. Their existence was for many years unknown. Originally they were thought to be Espers, and truthfully they do resemble them in many ways, but over time the separation has been distinguished. The progeny of mortal and Lucavi is known to be passionate to the point, in some cases, of insanity. Its assumed that this is because of the purely primal nature of their immortal parents is too much for a mere mortal to be able to fully understand and deal with. Not all their natures are inherently dark or destructive, but for many it can take a hard-disciplined mind to control some of the impulses their spiritual heritage often provokes in them.
Lucavians and Espers could be considered cousins more than anything else, with little in common save that somehow they have been imbued with part of the power of a supernatural being (Spirit or Lucavi). Unlike most Espers, Lucavians are often openly suspicious of their Great Sire's reasoning for such a 'blessing' which often can make them seem distrustful of all. This is not always the case, as there are some who have turned this chaotic gift into something more positive, channeling the arts or other creative talents. They are not servants, though some claim to be direct agents of their Sire, but anytime one comes in the presence of a Lucavian... one is best to be wary.
