With time and seasoning on the streets or in the backwoods in them, a skilled thief can actually learn to slide items from a person in the midst of their movements in combat. It is a matter of timing and some luck to succeed, but in the most basic fashion, one can take the small items and accessories one sees many an adventurer from their person, leaving them that much more vulnerable to his enemies.
