Chaos
The first of Ultima's servants, Chaos was the sacred guardian of the Elemental Crystals in the dawn of ages when the world was young. Fated to be the guardian in each life and to follow them what so ever the changes of the world might reap. Mortal he was to be born again and again, the walker of life's wheel following the crystals throughout time so that they would always have their choosen guardian. A weary spirit trudging the path set out for him, forgotten by the gods yet always seeking, always being reborn, never resting, it was in this state of abandonment that Ultima found them. Opening their eyes to their continous fate, of lives doomed to servitude their spirit broke, seeded with the weight of the world they awoke into rage and anguish at what had been done to them again and again, eons of ancient memories unfolding, power un told and all bent with the single purpose of reducing what is and might be back into nothing.
Not only a force of power but a figure of cunning, guile and deceit, Chaos lives up to their name, sowing the seeds for the war, spreading dissention and destruction. Many of those spirits who turned from light to Ultima's cause followed on the heels of Chaos' words and work. In the end it was a mortal who struck Chaos down, in the thick of battle, in the heat of arguement and death their reign of malignant chaos ended. A moment of weakness only for the insidious nature of Chaos will corrupt all and any who come into contact with its aura. The Turqoise nethecite in which they are bound cannot by itself hold them and neither can the spirit world hold their corruption at bay.
Chaos bound and sleeping yet still exuding energy was secluded deep within a temple, a complex designed to seal away the creeping chaos and make it turn inward, for-ever creeping out but turned back by wards and insidious serpentine wanderings of the inner core of this less then sacred place. In time it became a focal point of religion, a place of worship and fear for a race of dark elves, allowing some taint of the corruption of Chaos to leech free and stain their society but the wardings hold and the temple still stands, forgotten, dusty, forlorn but still a check on the guile and deceit of the living Chaos.
