Gladiators

Above ground, in reputable arenas where people go to see events, there is something of an excited whisper about Gladiators. The excitement of a well defined performance will set anyone to be willing to place money on two trained warriors.

Unlike in The Pits, Gladiators are well-kept slaves who are either bought or voluntarily enter the service of a Dominus. These people are trained, day in and day out, fed, clothed, and treated well despite being called 'slave'. The life may be harsh, but some find it well worth it to have a sense of security.

Two enter an arena, and through skilled combat, one will leave either until first blood is drawn, or until the opponent submits--death can happen, but it is rare as Gladiators are expensive and no Dominus wishes to lose out on an investment.

There is no defined style of fight for a Gladiator, but in training, it is expected that they learn all forms of physical combat for the ring. In doing such, magic is forbidden in the arena except in the case of healing. To use magic in a Gladiatorial fight is to show cowardice and lack of skill, and it will have the Gladiator and their Dominus shamed from the ring, never to return. It is important to have the love of the crowd as it means prize money.

Gladiators are known for their flashy displays of fighting, meant to draw the attention of the crowd. The more of a frenzy the crowd has been whipped into, the more money that pours into the purses of a Gladiator and their Dominus.
