The Pits

Under the city, where the sewer platforms and walkways join, are the center stages for something that just isn't simply talked about: The Pits. The first rule about The Pits: You do not talk about 'The Pits'.

Men are wont to gamble and throw any coin they can rub together for any type of wager, and the most daring will throw their coins at The Pits. Fighters (not to be confused with trained Gladiators), are paired off against each other for fights until submission or death, whatever comes first.

Two may enter, and only one may leave the ring. Each individual is allowed to draw a weapon (usually from a hat and in a miniaturized carved ivory form), and they are assigned the weapon they have drawn. Then the referee indicates the fight to begin, there are no rules for the fighters. Their job is very simple: take down your other opponent through any means necessary.

Large purses can be won through these fights, and those who bet do not admit where they receive their money from. Those who fight in The Pits are seen as little more than feral animals that are a step away from being put down.

These fights, after an evening of sport, are never held in the same area twice beneath the city. They are always on the constant move in order to avoid the steely gaze of the Judges--but even a Judge will not wander alone into The Pits.
