The sensation of the ‘chill of the grave’ that is often felt when close to a place where many have died is said to be the effect of coming close to a Pyrefly. Summoners found this was in fact the truth, and a controlled Pyrefly can actually infuse another with a mote of defensive power, like the little brother of a White Mage’s Protect spell.
System: Summoner expends an action to sacrifice all his Pyreflies to defend a single ally, negating damage as one. The amount of damage negated equals 25% of the total HP of the summoned Pyreflies, plus an additional 25% every 8 ranks. At least 1 HP will get through on any single attack, but any leftover Pyrefly HP means the ally can be guarded for another round.
