|The modern potion would not exist today without the Alchemist, along with many simple and every-day things that people in cities take for granted.  Even something so commonplace as oil required someone to test and refine it to become better.  Alchemy is not a safe profession, as the chemicals dealt with can be dangerous and unstable, leaving the Alchemist with a bit of a reputation for being hard on whatever property they set up shop in.  While it is not entirely common for explosions to happen in a laboratory... every so often something does go boom.
