| The frustrated screams of a woman driven mad were punctuated by the bawling of a child who was witness to her blazing temper. The sounds from the small home could be heard quite a distance down the road and neighbors, alerted by the sounds of distress, came to spirit the little grey winged boy away while still others stayed with her. Those that lingered to calm the woman were followers of the Canto, one among them a priest, though they practiced in secret. A book was pressed into her hands while soothing words were spoken in whispers, for the words were forbidden: 'This is what happened when you follow not the Canto and mingle with those of the Underworld. Betrayal of those you once held dear and of all things you knew were right...' |
